18-(NHS ester-methylamine-PEG3-ethylcarbamoyl)heptadecanoic-t-butyl ester is a PEG linker with an NHS ester group and an alkane tail that has a terminal t-butyl ester group. The NHS ester can be used to label the primary amines (-NH2) of proteins, amine-modified oligonucleotides, and other amine-containing molecules. The t-butyl protected carboxyl group can be deprotected under acidic conditions. The polymer can form micelles spontaneously in water. It may also be used to prepare more complex lipids for nanoparticles for drug delivery. Reagent grade, for research purpose.

The bromide (Br) can be used as a leaving group for nucleophilic substitution reactions. The terminal carboxylic acid can react with primary amine groups in the presence of activators (e.g. EDC, or HATU) to form a stable amide bond. 18-(Bromoacetamido-PEG3-ethylcarbamoyl)heptadecanoic acid is a self-assembling PEG reagent which may form micelles in water.
