Liver tissue BioBank: High quality specimens for liver disease research

Sekisui Xenotech’s Research BioBank provides you with normal and diseased human liver tissue samples for scientific investigation. Tissues are collected with the initial intent for transplant, thus making them perfect candidates to advance basic medical science and contribute to the development of new treatments.

The care taken to preserve viability of the tissue intended for transplantation distinguishes these Research Biobank specimens from samples collected at a typical post-mortem, usually compromised by several hours of a warm ischemia. So what are the other benefits of the biobank?

Research Biobank of Human tissue samples – benefits

  • High quality specimens from organs intended for transplantation
  • Large quantities compared to needle biopsies
  • Collected in a timely manner to preserve tissue viability
  • Donor demographics, BMI, diabetes, alcohol use, etc. are provided
  • Diagnosis supported by H&E slides
  • NASH, pediatric, diabetic, and other specimens available

You can easily access Microarrays, Tissue in Buffer, Subcellular Fractions (including a NASH Microsome Pool), Paraffin Blocks, Slides and Hepatocytes.

Human liver tissue samples can be prepared in the buffer of your choice. Disease-defined hepatocytes have been prepared from certain donors (healthy and those with early stages of alcoholic or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or diabetes, check the donor list here for availability). Additionally, a pool of human liver microsomes from NASH donors has already been prepared.

These test systems have the potential to be a convenient human model of the aforementioned diseases. They are offered to scientists interested in disease biomarkers, in vivo / in vitro correlation of disease biomarker expression, with the aim of advancing in vitro studies linked to obesity and alcohol consumption. Subcellular fractions, paraffin blocks or slides can be prepared upon request from many of the donors.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you can’t see what you’re looking for, as other donors may be available. Additional H&E and/or trichrome slide images are available upon request. You can get in touch via the form below, or contact me directly.

    1. Dear Jose,
      Thank you for your question.
As stated in my email, my colleagues from our Spain office will get back to you on the various options we can offer, from flash frozen liver tissue to pre-lysate.
Wishing you success in your project.
      Best regards,
      Isabelle
